Healing Horse Centre
Phase 1

The Healing Horse Centre (HHC) at Greenshire is in set-up and development phase – a financially- and labour-intensive venture. We’d love your support, whether it’s a monetary or in-kind donation, sponsorship, and/or volunteer time. The Healing Horse Centre is in the process of becoming a stand-alone nonprofit organization.

F.E.E.L. sessions and workshops (non-riding, equine-assisted learning for humans) are available to the public. In order to offer these year-round, we are continuing our ambitious fundraising efforts. Over and above your donation or sponsorship, we actively pursue government funding and partnerships with social programs, children’s clubs, women’s groups, therapeutic organizations, local businesses, etc., to contribute to this undertaking. (Interested in partnering or have a suggestion for a potential partner? Please let us know.)

Not included in our initial list of set-up and ongoing costs for Phase 1 is the next development phase of the Healing Horse Centre, which includes a large indoor riding arena with heated viewing area so that we will be able to offer the F.E.E.L. workshops year-round (among others). Read more (available here very soon!) about Phase 2 of the Healing Horse Centre. Come for a tour to see the planned layout of the phases throughout the property.

Here’s a sampling of what we’ve accomplished to date:

The Greenshire farm partners bought this 100-acre property in October 2009. The land was beautiful, the built spaces in need of tender loving care and repair. Since then, we have made amazing progress with the human and other resources we’ve had to work with. We’ve built a Paddock Paradise track system and run-in shelter for the horses; a tack room; dozens of raised, no-till Permaculture garden beds (including possibly the largest assembly of Hugelkultur beds in Canada); provided weekly boxes of chemical-free, sustainably-grown food to 22 local families from June through October 2010 via a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program; attended several farming, tourism and business workshops and networking groups; and were one of the farm tour stops in the City of Kawartha Lakes’ 2010 and 2011 Farmfest driving tours. We’ve also paid back over $12,000 in loans related to the property purchase.

Wow, we’ve come a long way since October 2009! And all this while working non-farm jobs to fund the various Greenshire initiatives.

Please donate via secure Paypal (orange button on the right side of this web page), email transfer to greenshireecofarms@gmail.com, or by mailing a cheque payable to Greenshire Eco Farms, 1563 Pigeon Lake Road, Lindsay, Ontario K9V 4R5. All amounts large or small appreciated! For personal donations, your name will go on our Gratitude page.

If you’re a business owner, please sponsor the Healing Horse Centre now, concurrently promoting your business – it’s a win-win-win situation (see below). We know all donations and sponsorships will add up and together we can meet this goal so the F.E.E.L. workshops will be available to you, your families, friends, employees, youth and others in need, etc. We promise you absolute transparency about how your donation or sponsorship money will be used. For more information or to become an individual or corporate sponsor, please email or phone 705-879-4207.
